Rob’s Rules

Specialization is for insects...

A human being should be able to change a diaper, plan an invasion, butcher a hog, conn a ship, design a building, write a sonnet, balance accounts, build a wall, set a bone, comfort the dying, take orders, give orders, cooperate, act alone, solve equations, analyze a new problem, pitch manure, program a computer, cook a tasty meal, fight efficiently, die gallantly. Specialization is for insects. <

I love Heinlein. I think he is truly one of the great thinkers of the 20th century. And this quote is one of my favorites. Read him. You will enjoy it. Even if you don't agree with what he says, he will make you think. Independent thinking is never a bad thing

In this age of AI and hyper-specialization, its also more important than ever to remember what it is to be a human being. We use our brains. We use our hands. We build and fix things. And we can do all of this at the same time. We just don't regurgitate random words from a database. We analyze data to come up with unexpected solutions. We make leaps of logic and love. We have emotion and empathy. We are messy and disorganized.

We are not computers .... or insects.

Embrace your humanity.
